AIRDRIE, AB – On May 17, 2022 the City, along with the Province of Alberta, welcomed Super-Pufft Snacks Corp. to Airdrie as they officially opened their new, $50-million facility; this significant investment will drive the City’s local economy, generate vast employment opportunities and increase growth of a target industry in Alberta.
Super-Pufft is one of North America’s largest manufacturers and co-packers of salty snacks for retailers and national brands. Their state-of-the-art potato chip processing facility will be the first location in Canada outside of Ontario. Super-Pufft’s Airdrie facility will promote significant growth for Alberta’s potato farmers and will use approximately 78,000 tonnes of Alberta potatoes each year; this investment has also re-developed 140,000sq ft. of industrial space in Airdrie that has been vacant for more than five years.
Airdrie Economic Development (AED) and Alberta’s Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Rural Economic Development (AFRED) worked collaboratively to secure this investment for Airdrie and Alberta.
“I want to thank our Airdrie Economic Development team and Alberta’s Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Rural Economic Development for bringing this opportunity to fruition," says Mayor Peter Brown. “We are thrilled that Super-Pufft has chosen Airdrie as its first location in Western Canada. This venture will significantly drive our local economy and we sincerely thank Super-Pufft for investing in our community.”
Alberta is the third-largest producer of potatoes in Canada; in 2021 the Province produced approximately 1.25 million tonnes of potatoes (19.62 per cent of Canada’s potato production). Potato processing is a key emerging area for growth in Alberta’s food processing industry.
