City to host kids can catch event on July 3 at Nose Creek Pond

In partnership with Alberta Conservation Association (ACA), the City of Airdrie will be hosting a Kids Can Catch event during Alberta’s Family Fishing Weekend.

“This event sounds like so much fun. I’m excited to see events like this that help encourage people to get out and experience Airdrie. Events like this are what creates an engaged community,” said Mayor Brown. “Residents can learn how to take care of the environment while enjoying themselves with their families. This aligns well with Council’s focus areas of environmental protection and leisure and recreation and culture.”

“When I heard about ACA kids can catch events and the pond stocking, I was hooked,” said Shauna Quinn, Tourism Development Officer. “And not just because of the potential for puns. Activations like this are great for Airdrie residents and our visitor economy alike to experience these affordable activities close to home.”

“Albertans live with some of the cleanest water resources in the world,” said Clint Goodman, co-chair Nose Creek Watershed Partnership and City of Airdrie Environmental Specialist. “Educating youth about our abundant natural resources through a fun activity like fishing, helps create an appreciation for nature that will hopefully encourage environmental stewardship into the future.”

Residents can learn about casting, reeling, safe fish handling and win prizes on July 3. Celebrity angler, Wes David, will be sharing local fishing tips and tricks at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Participants that have rods should bring them. There will be a few to borrow for registered participants who don’t have rods.

Several community not-for-profits will also be on-site offering more than one way to catch a fish. The City of Airdrie would like to thank the following sponsors for contributing to this event: Canadian Tire, Real Canadian Superstore, Braces Plus Orthodontics, Lil’ Betta’s Swim School, Bow River Fly Fishing, Beef Jerky, 1St Airdrie Scout, Boys and Girls Club Airdrie and more.
