For Immediate Release: October 13, 2022

AIRDRIE, AB: The Airdrie Fire Department (AFD) is pleased to announce the winner of the 2022 Junior Fire Chief contest. Rechyn L. won the essay contest and will receive an Honourary Fire Chief certificate, fire truck piggy bank, junior fire chief t-shirt, a ride in the fire truck to the station for lunch with the Chief and will participate in the 2023 Canada Day parade.

The Airdrie Fire Deputy Chief was pleased with all the entries from each school. "We really enjoyed reading the essays from the students, they showed these young students are really taking fire safety seriously and are great advocates for keeping their families safe", said Deputy Fire Chief James Kostuk.

Grade four students from across the City were asked to submit a 50 word essay on How I can keep my family fire safe. Teachers choose their top essay from each class and shared it with the AFD.
