City of Airdrie implements Level 4 water restrictions effective Dec. 31

Dec. 31 2025 / For Immediate Release

Airdrie, AB - The City of Airdrie has implemented Level 4 water restrictions, effective Dec. 31, due to a water main break in Calgary.

Level 4 restrictions include a complete ban on outdoor water use for all residents and businesses. At this time, recreational facilities such as pools and arenas will remain open and there is no request for business closures. The City has stopped flooding outdoor rinks and is implementing water-reduction measures across municipal operations.

"We know this is a challenging situation for our neighbours in Calgary and we’re doing our part to support the region as they work through the watermain break,” said Mayor Heather Spearman. “Airdrie residents have always shown they’re willing to step up and I know people will do what they can to conserve water. While it’s disappointing to pause outdoor rink flooding during the winter, our indoor rinks remain open and we’re proud to be good regional neighbours."

Airdrie is one of more than 10 municipalities that rely on the Bow and Elbow rivers for drinking water.
