Candidate Profile: Kristen Shima

Hello Airdrie! It would be an honour to serve our community. As a servant leader, I’ve spent more than a decade helping build strong, resilient communities - right here in Airdrie and across Alberta. As a 14-year local entrepreneur, community builder, and 21-year resident, I understand the challenges and opportunities our city faces.

My work has always focused on “people power” - empowering residents, supporting local businesses, and creating spaces where residents can thrive. From grassroots initiatives to city planning, I bring real experience in turning ideas into action. Overall, I specialize in “wicked messy problems” and working with the community for resilient solutions.

I hold a Master of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies (Regenerative Sustainable Community Development) and certificates in Community Economic Development, Cultural Planning & Development, and Sustainable Tourism, with eight years of municipal experience and leadership as an Executive Director of a Business Improvement Area.
