Health and safety

Applicants are responsible to train and communicate essential information to all volunteers prior to commencing their volunteer activity.

Task appropriate PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) is always required during volunteer activities on city land. This will be determined based on the type of work that will be performed. Parks will make every effort to provide sufficient tools and supplies to volunteers for a successful event. In some cases, volunteers will be expected to supply some items as well.

Reminder: Workers are entitled to three basic rights:

  1. Right to know the hazards
  2. Right to participate in health and safety activities
  3. Right to refuse unsafe work

If a city representative determines a request to be high-risk, it will not be permitted or considered for parks volunteers.
