City invites residents to take part in the municipal census launching today, April 1

April 1, 2026 / For immediate release

AIRDRIE, AB – The City of Airdrie has launched its annual municipal census today, April 1, 2026. The census will collect important information about Airdrie’s population and demographics. This data helps City Council and administration plan services, allocate resources and support a thriving community.

Residents are encouraged to take part once they receive their Secure Access Code (SAC), which will be delivered directly to their household. Anyone who completes the census online before April 17, 2026, will be entered for a chance to win gift cards worth $1,000. The census includes simple questions such as age, gender, how many people live in the home and whether the home is owned or rented, as well as if the home is owned or rented and if it has a separate suite.

“Our municipal census is an important way to understand how Airdrie is growing and how to best support our community,” says Mayor Heather Spearman. “Every response makes a meaningful difference. When more households participate, we can plan transportation, recreation and emergency services with greater accuracy, and it strengthens Airdrie’s ability to receive important Provincial funding. Completing the municipal census is a simple way for every resident to contribute to Airdrie’s future and support the place we all call home.”

All census information is confidential. Responses are used only for statistical purposes and are not shared with outside agencies or organizations. Once complete, the results will be summarized and posted on the City’s website. Past years’ census results are available to the public.

For households who do not complete their census online, municipal census enumerators will begin door-to-door collection on April 17, 2026. To participate, visit airdrie.ca/census.
