Airdrie, AB – The City of Airdrie has acquired 160 acres of land in East Points, demonstrating its commitment to increasing Airdrie’s supply of investment-ready industrial land.
The quarter-section of land is located in northeast Airdrie (SE-11-27-29 W4M) and was purchased from Westside Land Corporation at a price of $12,784,000.
The City of Airdrie’s land purchase directly supports the vision outlined in the East Points Community Area Structure Plan (CASP), which was approved by City Council on December 7, 2020. The CASP provides statutory approval and establishes the long-term framework for development of six quarter sections of industrial lands in the city’s northeast. By acquiring this land, the City is taking a critical step toward activating the CASP and ensuring that the planned industrial growth becomes a reality.
“This land purchase is a smart, forward-looking investment in Airdrie’s economic future. By securing employment lands now, we’re making sure local businesses have room to grow and that we’re ready to welcome new employers who want to be part of Airdrie’s success. This is about strengthening our tax base, creating long-term opportunities, and positioning Airdrie as a strong economic partner in the region,” says Mayor Heather Spearman.
This purchase is a key priority of Airdrie’s Economic Strategy 2018-2028, addressing the critical shortage of shovel-ready employment lands and ensuring a future supply of non-residential space to retain and grow the local businesses while attracting new investment. The City will begin work soon on a Neighbourhood Structure Plan, expected to be completed by early 2027, to make the land investment-ready for development.
This long-term investment will generate business tax revenue, create employment opportunities and strengthen Airdrie’s economy for the benefit of residents and the business community.
