AIRDRIE, AB – Applications are now open for the City’s Reconciliation Community Initiatives Grants Program, which supports Indigenous-led initiatives that help residents learn about Indigenous histories, cultures and world views.
“This grant program helps create space for Indigenous voices, stories and teachings that deepen understanding and build respectful relationships across our community,” says Mayor Heather Spearman.
The Reconciliation Community Grants Program provides funding to eligible Indigenous-led not-for-profit organizations planning and delivering initiatives connected to National Indigenous Peoples Day and the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Funding may also support related Indigenous-led activities taking place around those dates.
Eligible applicants include Indigenous-led not-for-profit organizations with at least 50 per cent Indigenous leadership and demonstrated relationships with Treaty 7 Nations or the Otipemisiwak Métis Government (District 4).
“Indigenous communities are best positioned to lead initiatives that share their histories, cultures and perspectives,” says Allison Graham, team lead, Culture & Heritage. "This grant program is designed to support that leadership by providing funding while respecting Indigenous communities’ right to plan and deliver their own initiatives.”
Applications for initiatives related to National Indigenous Peoples Day are open until May 6. Applications for initiatives related to the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation are open until July 31. Applicants may submit combined or separate applications. Combined applications should be submitted by May 6.
More information about eligibility, funding details and how to apply is available at airdrie.ca/reconciliationgrant.
The grant program supports the City’s ongoing development of an Indigenous Framework and Action Plan, which will guide engagement with Indigenous communities in meaningful and respectful ways.
