Municipal Enforcement launches summer safety initiatives focused on e-scooter and child passenger safety

June 1, 2026/For immediate release

AIRDRIE, AB – As warmer weather brings residents outdoors to pathways and roadways, the City of Airdrie’s Municipal Enforcement team is launching two summer safety initiatives aimed at helping residents stay safe while travelling around the community.

Throughout June, Municipal Enforcement will promote e-scooter safety awareness while also offering free car seat amnesty days for parents and caregivers.

Car seat amnesty days

Certified Municipal Enforcement officers will provide free child car seat inspections at Genesis Place on June 14 and 21 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The inspections are designed to help parents and caregivers ensure car seats are properly installed and being used safely and correctly.

“Small adjustments can make a big difference when it comes to child passenger safety,” said Brad Tomlinson, team leader, Municipal Enforcement. “Our goal is to give families confidence that their car seats are installed correctly and that children are as safe as possible every time they travel.”

Appointments are required, as each inspection takes approximately one hour. Residents can book an appointment by calling Municipal Enforcement at 403.948.8892 and more information can be found at airdrie.ca/carseats

E-scooter safety campaign

Municipal Enforcement also launches an e-scooter safety awareness campaign in June to help residents better understand where e-scooters can be used and how to ride safely and responsibly.

The campaign focuses on:

  • Where private and shared e-scooters are permitted
  • Speed awareness and safe riding practices
  • Yielding to pedestrians
  • Helmet use
  • Proper parking of shared e-scooters

“With more people using e-scooters throughout the community, education is an important part of keeping pathways, sidewalks and roadways safe for everyone,” said Tomlinson. “We want residents to understand the rules before they ride and remember that safety is a shared responsibility.”
