Meet the 2026 SMARTstart Entrepreneurs

Entrepreneurship starts with an idea and grows with support. SMARTstart 2026 is Airdrie’s launchpad for early-stage business builders.

Since 2014, the program has helped more than 165 entrepreneurs build sustainable businesses through practical training in planning, marketing and finances. Participants gain hands-on learning, mentorship and a strong peer community - because no one should build a business alone.

Let’s meet the first half:

Dietrich Tiessen

Tiessen Construction Inc. takes on residential renovations, custom home builds and exterior projects, helping homeowners transform and upgrade their spaces with a focus on quality craftsmanship and results that stand the test of time. Dietrich is paired with mentor David Barchard, Owner, Micro Acres

Stephanie Warner

Embodied Wisdom Counselling and Somatics supports individuals and couples through integrative therapy, blending somatic practices with clinical approaches to help clients process trauma, strengthen relationships and create meaningful, lasting change. Stephanie is paired with mentor Michelle Tennant, Owner, LochSmith Consulting.

Jocelyn Cromwell

Envision OT delivers occupational therapy services enhanced by Interactive Metronome, offering clients of all ages a structured, science-based approach to improving learning, behaviour, rehabilitation and overall performance. Jocelyn is paired with mentor Tara Pickford, Owner, Ambition Performing Arts and CEO, Pickford Consulting.

Catherine Greenwood

Young Engineers Airdrie brings STEM to life through hands-on programs, camps and workshops, where children explore engineering and science concepts using LEGO, robotics and creative problem-solving in an engaging, interactive environment. Catherine is paired with mentor Jennifer Benner, Former Owner, Benner Database Designs.

Serhii Shalimov

Impexpro Ltd. connects Canadian businesses with high-quality European industrial and electrical equipment, streamlining sourcing and logistics to ensure reliable access to specialized products. Serhii is paired with mentor Heather Harke, Former Owner, Shoplift Deals.
