For immediate release

Airdrie, AB – The City of Airdrie is joining communities across the province in celebrating 60 years of Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) in Alberta, recognizing the lasting impact of prevention-focused programs that help build stronger, healthier and more connected communities.

For six decades, FCSS has brought together municipalities, the Government of Alberta and Métis Settlements to invest in locally driven initiatives that support individual, family and community well-being before challenges become crises. Through Airdrie FCSS, the City supports a wide range of preventive social programs, community-building initiatives and grant opportunities that strengthen belonging, inclusion and resilience throughout the community.

"One of the things I love most about Airdrie is the way people show up for one another," says Mayor Heather Spearman. “Behind every FCSS-funded program are stories of people finding support, building confidence, creating friendships and feeling a greater sense of belonging in our community. As we celebrate this milestone, I want to thank the organizations, volunteers, staff and community partners whose dedication has helped make Airdrie the caring, connected and resilient city we know today."

In 2025, Airdrie FCSS partnered with eight social-serving agencies to support 15,465 participants through 19 preventive social programs. These programs help residents build skills, strengthen relationships, increase social connections and access the supports they need to thrive.

The impact continues to grow. In 2025, 97.13 per cent of participants reported positive changes in their personal well-being, while 89.26 per cent experienced an increased sense of connection with others. Overall participant outcomes have steadily improved, increasing from 82.06 per cent in 2022 to 91.06 per cent in 2025.

Airdrie FCSS supports residents through a variety of initiatives, including multi-year program funding, resource navigation and community-building grants. Applications are open through Nov. 9 for the Community Engagement Grant (up to $10,000), which supports volunteer activities, community programs, events and initiatives that address emerging social needs, and the Youth Engagement Grant (up to $25,000), which supports organizations that empower youth ages 12 to 24 to make a positive difference in their community through volunteerism, programs and community initiatives.

Prevention remains at the heart of FCSS. By addressing social challenges early and fostering strong community networks, FCSS helps create lasting social and economic benefits while improving quality of life for residents.
