Fence and tree planting
Permits are not required for fence construction or replacements or when you plant trees on your property.
- Architectural neighbourhood guidelines: The style, colour and design of fences or types of trees may be subject to architectural guidelines in your neighbourhood. Check with your community developer to determine whether any special requirements apply before starting your project.
- Property lines: It is important to ensure fences and trees are located correctly on your property to avoid future issues with adjacent landowners. A current Real Property Report shows property lines and existing structures, including fences, and can help confirm proper placement. A land surveyor may also be able to assist.
- Tree care: Before planting a tree, consider its mature size and choose a location that will not interfere with utilities, sidewalks, property lines or neighbouring properties. Careful planning can help prevent future maintenance concerns and property conflicts. Learn more about tree care.
- Utility line locates: Whether you are installing a fence or planting a tree, always locate underground utilities before digging. View locate and line information.
