Help plant 100 trees for National Forest Week

To celebrate National Forest Week, the City of Airdrie is planting 100 trees (saplings) to help grow our urban tree canopy.

Join us Sept. 23 to help plant, meet your neighbours and learn about tree planting from Airdrie’s Urban Forestry Technician.

  • Sept. 23
  • 9 to 11 a.m.
  • Chinook Winds Regional Park

Because there are a limited number of saplings available, planting opportunities will be offered on a first come, first served basis, however, we encourage everyone to join us to learn about urban forestry and celebrate National Forest Week, even if not all attendees have the opportunity to plant a tree.

Please wear closed-toe shoes, dress for the weather and bring gloves and water. We will provide shovels, soil and mulch.

National Forest Week 2026: Growing Airdrie's urban tree canopy

National Forest Week is an annual celebration that encourages Canadians to learn about the important role trees and forests play in our daily lives. It provides opportunities for communities, schools, organizations and individuals to explore sustainable forestry, environmental stewardship and the many benefits healthy forests provide.

Forests support wildlife, strengthen local economies, store carbon and contribute to Canada's cultural and natural heritage.

While we may not have immediate access to natural forests in an urban setting, trees and urban forests offer many of the same benefits. They improve air quality, support local wildlife, create more comfortable outdoor spaces and help make neighbourhoods healthier and more attractive.

Trees are also a powerful natural climate solution. As they grow, they absorb and store carbon, help cool cities during hot weather, reduce stormwater runoff and strengthen community resilience to climate change. Every tree planted today helps create a greener, healthier Airdrie for future generations.
